Mixed Media: Skin and Steel

I often use hot-rolled steel in varied configurations to underscore the hard edges of my work. To “frame” my images, I utilize the steel in a bolting system that combines the archival pigment ink prints with flat, hot-rolled steel.  Each image is adhered to the steel and sealed with wax.  My choice of a translucent encaustic material as the sealant increases abstraction and the complexity and intensity of color and texture, which is complemented by the cool hardness of the steel and the bolts.
